Public bug reported:
I have a system that requires iptables-persistent to be installed, which
is, according to apt, incompatible with ufw. On the same system I was
attempting to set up the Remote Login form of RDP access. It appeared to
turn on in the GUI, except it didn't fill in any of the authentication
information. If I navigate away from that page in the settings and come
back, the switch will be turned off. When attempting to enable it or
check the status from the CLI via `sudo grdctl --system status`, the
command just hangs. No output, no logs, nothing happens until I hit
Control+C. Attempting to enable the systemd service yields similar
results. As far as I can see, ufw isn't listed anywhere as a requirement
for gnome-remote-desktop, and when enabling the Desktop Sharing option
via either GUI or CLI it works perfectly fine with or without UFW.
Oh forgot to mention, I know it's the lack of UFW that's the problem
because if I install UFW and reboot, Remote Login works just fine.
That's not a solution for me though, because I need iptables-persistent
on this system for other reasons.
Ubuntu Version: 24.04.1 LTS
Package Version: 46.3-0ubuntu1
What I expected: To be able to enable the Remote Login (--system) option of
gnome-remote-desktop, or at least receive some kind of error message indicating
I need ufw installed.
What happened instead: The commands hang with no indication of what the error
is.
** Affects: gnome-remote-desktop (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
