it's not just blinking, sometimes, when i navigate into the vpn menu and
click on a vpn config it just doesn't do anything except closing the
menu. i guess it blinks so fast one cannot see it and then the click
basically gets lost or sent to the desktop background and the menu
folds. this is super annoying, sometimes i have to navigate the nm menus
like 3 times to finally get some action.

Title:
nm-applet blinks while updating ssdis making mouse click on desired
  wifi or vpn almost impossible

Status in network-manager-applet package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
i'm running xfce and almost each time i (a) click on the nm-applet in
the status tray and then (b) move the mouse to the "available
networks" submenu of "wifi networks" and then (c) move the mouse to
select one, the whole nm-applet menu updates (i guess because some
ssids go out or new come in), and since i use focus-follows-mouse the
available networks submenu closes again and i have to repeat the
procedure above. i learned to wait a bit at the step (a) above so that
it stops blinking and the wifi list kinda stabilizes before i can move
  mouse towards desired selection.

it's just annoying. i'm also a bit sad that no rigorous desktop
testing is done anymore with the focus-follows-mouse setting. in the
very far past this setting used to be the default choice on x11
desktops since it sensibly reduces the number of necessary clicks but
all the people coming to linux desktops from windoze have ruined this
useful tradition and i dread the day when this setting will simply
  vanish from the window-manager options.
