I can reproduce at least one case of high gnome-shell CPU usage with the following:
1. Install Ubuntu 24.04 on Proxmox (version 8.2.9) 2. Install NoMachine for Linux (version 8.15.3_1 at https://download.nomachine.com/download/8.15/Linux/nomachine_8.15.3_1_amd64.deb) 3. Reboot gnome-shell will consume 100-120% CPU. Stopping the NoMachine service does not affect CPU usage. However, if you remove NoMachine and reboot, gnome-shell will be back to normal (~5% or less CPU). This problem did not occur on Ubuntu 22.04. Additionally, sometimes when using NoMachine I notice a mouse flickering as if the mouse is jumping back and forth between where I am pointing and a fixed point on the border of the screen. I think this happens when switching between the proxmox console (VNC based) and NoMachine. However the CPU usage occurs regardless of whether a NoMachine session has been established or if this mouse flicker occurs.
