https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2098453
This bug was fixed in the package gnome-shell - 48~beta-3ubuntu1
---------------
gnome-shell (48~beta-3ubuntu1) plucky; urgency=medium
[ Marco Trevisan (Treviño) ]
* Merge with debian
* debian/salsa-ci: Use ubuntu recipes
* debian/patches/ubuntu-authd: Rebase as per upstream changes
[ Daniel van Vugt ]
* Add missing import to the magnifier patch (LP: #2098745)
gnome-shell (48~beta-3) experimental; urgency=medium
* debian/control: Set both upper and lower bounds for gnome-shell-common
dependency.
* debian/control: Remove dependency on gnome-shell-common from prefs.
The tool has already a strict dependency on gnome-shell, that depends on
gnome-shell-common, so no reason to handle that
* Revert "d/c: Don't depend on exact versions of gnome-shell-common"
gnome-shell-common contains the Javascript code that consumes the
typelib and the APIs that are defined in the libraries that gnome-shell
package provides, so the dependency should be strict on the version,
since even a point release may expose a new internal API that then the
javascript code consumes. (LP: #2098654)
gnome-shell (48~beta-2) experimental; urgency=medium
* Team upload
[ Jeremy Bícha ]
* Set Salsa CI release to Experimental
[ Alessandro Astone ]
* Depend on gnome-shell-common >= 48~.
The interfaces need to match (Closes: #1096064, LP: #2098453)
[ Simon McVittie ]
* Remove an obsolete Lintian override
* Adjust patch metadata to mark some patches as forwarded
* Adjust some patch metadata to use DEP-3 representation for upstream bugs

Title:
gnome-shell 48 breaks on partial upgrades
Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
Fix Released
Bug description:
Due to gnome-shell not having a strict version equality on gnome-
shell-common, `apt` can easily upgrade the latter while holding back
the former, e.g. due to transition.
In 48~beta-1ubuntu1, the authd patches were disabled, so gnome-shell-
common 48 had no knowledge of the authd gsettings keys that gnome-
shell 47 (held back by APT), resulting in GDM not showing the password
dialog.
