My single monitor is a common 24" 1920x1080 connected to HDMI. I did some additional tests :
- the problem is present with all Ubuntu versions since at least 22.04.5 LTS. - the problem only occurs with cursor pushes contents around mode, not with the default. Being the nominal Windows magnifier behavior, I believe the push mode is the most commonly used. - the problem sometimes only appear after modifying the settings and doing a session restart / reboot. - it seems that disabling the focus and caret tracking make the freeze appearing more quickly. - some people seems to have the same problem : https://askubuntu.com/questions/1531022/how-can-i-file-a-bug-in-gnome-magnifier-it-freezzes-with-push-setting - the problem is present with Wayland or Xorg. - there's no problem with plasma or Cinnamon desktops. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2099933 Title: display freezes when magnifier is activated Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: When I activate the zoom feature, the screen is well magnified but the mouse pointer stops moving when displacing the mouse, the display is frozen. A kind of shadow mouse pointer seems to be moving behind with hover effects on UI components, but the screen and "real" mouse pointer don't. When I deactivate the magnifier, the problem disappears. I can see this error message appearing in the logs when I activate the magnifier at 20:23 : before the activation but could be related : gnome-shell[1755]: clutter_actor_set_name: assertion 'CLUTTER_IS_ACTOR (self)' failed fnome-shell[1755]: clutter_actor_set_accessible_name: assertion 'CLUTTER_IS_ACTOR (self)' failed after : gnome-shell[1755]: value "nan" of type 'gfloat' is invalid or out of range for property 'y' of type 'gfloat' (massive amount of log lines) gnome-shell[1755]: clutter_actor_allocate: assertion '!isnan (real_allocation.x1) && !isnan (real_allocation.x2) && !isnan (real_allocation.y1) && !isnan (real_allocation.y2)' failed gnome-shell[1755]: Can't update stage views actor unnamed [ClutterActor] is on because it needs an allocation. gnome-shell[1755]: Can't update stage views actor unnamed [ClutterActor] is on because it needs an allocation.
