The extensions causing the Applications Overview to appear upon logging in are in the off-state.

Status in gnome-control-center package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: 8 days ago, I had reported this issue on AskUbuntu: https://askubuntu.com/q/1553379/541417. Presently, the only viable solution that is available to users of Ubuntu 24.04 is to install an extension called "No overview at start-up". However, this extension does not stop the root cause of the issue as it first let the issue occur but will quickly cause the monitor to show the Desktop and not the Applications Overview; this effect is visible. I opined that it is not idea for Ubuntu 24.04 to rely on an external extension to address this issue. Developers of the extensions causing the issue should rectify the matter at their end. More pertinently, Ubuntu should configure gnome-control-center in such a way to not allow users break its default control, which in this case I think is supposed to be controlled by gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock as it has the toggle to "Show overview at startup". My key findings: 4 extensions seem to trigger this issue randomly on Ubuntu 24.04.2, namely: Auto Move Windows, Coverflow Alt-Tab, Logo Menu and Wallpaper Slideshow. When these extensions are switched off, this issue does not occur on my system. To investigate this matter further, I have also completed 6 groups of testing: #Test 1: $ gnome-extensions list --enabled [email protected] [email protected] logomenu@aryan_k [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] ``` #Test 2: $ gnome-extensions list --enabled [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] ``` #Test 3: $ gnome-extensions list --enabled [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] ``` #Test 4: $ gnome-extensions list --enabled logomenu@aryan_k [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] ``` #Test 5: $ gnome-extensions list --enabled [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] ``` #Test 6: Which is a repeat of Test 1 # Test 7 $ gnome-extensions list --enabled [email protected] [email protected] logomenu@aryan_k [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] ``` Each tests involved 10 attempts of logging out and logging in to Ubuntu 24.04 and seeing if the Overview Applications or the Desktop would appear. **Results:** | Outcome |Test 1|Test 2|Test 3|Test 4|Test 5|Test 6|Test 7| |:-----------:|:----:|:----:|:----:|:----:|:----:|:----:|:----:| |Show Overview| 6/10 | 0/10 | 0/10 | 0/10 | 1/10 | 2/10 | 2/10 | |Show Desktop | 4/10 |10/10 |10/10 |10/10 | 9/10 | 8/10 | 8/10 | These results shows that a few User-Installed Extensions in concert are creating the issue at random. A very strange situation. My correspondences with the developer of these extensions: Auto Move Windows: See https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell-extensions/-/issues/571. GNOME developers replied that they are no longer working on that version and advised me to report the issue to Ubuntu. Wallpaper Slideshow: See https://gitlab.com/AndrewZaech/azwallpaper/-/issues/31. It developer states that his extension has no code that would directly cause the overview to show on login. Coverflow Alt-Tab https://github.com/dsheeler/CoverflowAltTab/issues/279 Logo Menu https://github.com/Aryan20/Logomenu/issues/105 Related info on my system: $ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available.
