Note that GNOME itself prefers to respect widgets alignments than
respect those hig guidance, see for example the display capplet
(resolution and rotation combos), or the sound one (output tab, balancer
slider and connector combo) or the screen one (combos)

  gnome-control-center 1:3.2.2-2ubuntu6, Ubuntu Pangolin

  1. Open the "Appearance" panel of System Settings.
  2. Measure the distance between the "Theme:" label and menu.
  3. Measure the distance between the "Launcher icon size:" label and slider.

  What you should see:
  2. 12 pixels.
  3. 12 pixels.
  "Between labels and associated components, leave 12 horizontal pixels."
