In my case I had a problem when I tried to do "Save a Copy".  As soon as
I chose a shortcut folder in the Save dialog it crashed.

  I opened a pdf book that has around 1000 pages when suddenly evince
  crashed when I tried to navigate until page 670-680 (approximately).
  by the way, this is a fully updated ubuntu 12.04 release.
