booting problem,....

Bug description:
"gave up waiting for root device. common problems:
-Boot args (cat/proc/endline)
-check rootdelay=(did the system wait long enough?)
-Check root =(did the system wait for the right device?)
-Missing modules (cat /proc/nodules: 1s/dev)
ALERT! /dev/disk/by -umid/ca556b87-16da-126-960a-2bc423df3021 does not exist
Dropping into a shell !
Busy box vi.15.3 (Ubuntu1:1.15 .......... built in shell ( ash)

Hi,
this is what we read on the screen . No use of built in commands.....
restarting ten times some times help...
then also says ...SRST........ failed...
this repeat five times at different intervals of seconds and start.
Some body help with this?I have windows XP along with but I prefer and use
ubuntu (10.10 ubuntu desktop edition).
