Thank you for your bug report, it got fixed in that upload:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+3.0/3.3.14-0ubuntu4

"gtk+3.0 (3.3.14-0ubuntu4) precise; urgency=low
...
  * debian/settings.in:
    - define default themes there, it's better than hardcoding, also define
the default sound theme (lp: #932716)"

The default theme in settings.ini is ambiance with that upload which should
avoid the g-s-d issue described there as well

Title:
FRQ: Make Ubuntus default theme (e.g. Ambiance) default Gtk+ theme

Status in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  FRQ (Feature Request):

Make Ubuntus default theme (e. g. Ambiance) the default fallback Gtk+
  theme.

  The problem is:

If you log out for example and the gnome-settings-daemon exits before
the desktop session closes completely, the Gtk+ theme falls back to
its current default theme. That means it changes for a few seconds
from Ambiance to the default "plain" outdated looking Gtk+ theme which
_doesn't_ look good and hurts the eyes!

  Expected behavior:

If a good looking skin like Ambiance is the default Gtk+ fallback
theme, it doesn't "hurt" the eyes if applications fall back to it in
the case where gnome-settings-daemon is gone (see logout example).
