I cannot reproduce this problem in Empathy 3.3.5. The problem appears to be addressed in https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23151 in upstream Telepathy, and corrected with https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=658542 in Empathy. Marking as such.
As lernid uses the older python bindings lacking the new interfaces added in Telepathy, rather than using introspection to find to Telepathy, it is tougher to fix there. ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #23151 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23151 ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #658542 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=658542 ** Changed in: telepathy-glib (Ubuntu) Status: New => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/737679 Title: topics in rooms do not update or sometimes display Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “lernid” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “telepathy-glib” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “telepathy-idle” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Binary package hint: empathy #launchpad-dev@freenode rarely displays its topic.
