nautilus will automaticall create a
.Trash-1001
directory on the filesystem unless it does not have the permissions to do so.
sudo chmod 777 /homehdd
should fix that.

Title:
Trash can not working on different partition but root
Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Binary package hint: nautilus
Because I have a fast, but small SSD, some of my user home files, like
videos, reside on a secondary real harddisk.
I got a mountpoint /homehdd that is used as a mountpoint for my partition on
the hdd.
I got a symbolic link of the Videos folder of my user redirected to this
position.
But now: whenever I delete a file in any of those folders, it cannot
be moved to trash but instead has to be deleted immediately.
How on earth can I get a trashcan on other partitions???
It IS working on USB devices, but why not here?
I consider this to be a bug.
More specific: it is a Nautilus bug to simply state "cannot move to trash, do
you want to delete immediately?" - I expect a REASON why it cannot be moved to
trash so I can DO something about it!
The lack of information is really a bug, in case anybody does not
consider the behavior of the trashcan to be a bug!
