I have a similar issue with Ubuntu 10.04 (2.6.38-11-generic): after
unplugging the power I get a 'battery critical' notification, even if
the battery is fully charged, and the computer goes to hibernate. On
resume the computer works fine.

  I tried the gconf-editor /apps/gnome-power-manager/general de-select the 
option use_time_for_policy, but did not work.
