This happens to me, but not only in thunderbird. It happens to me out of
thunderbird, at random (however the worst, eg installing updates) times,
and really bugs me. Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit.

Title:
  Thunderbird causes random logouts

Status in “thunderbird” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: thunderbird

While reading RSS results in Thunderbird, the system has a tendency to
logout randomly. There doesn't seem to be a specific message or
action that causes the logout. I have noticed that Thunderbird can on
occasion freeze but it does not gray-out as most programs do when they
are doing heavy processing. I have not noticed any correlation
between the freezing and the logouts. Also, logouts do not occur when
other programs are used and Thunderbird is not active. I do have the
Lightning plugin installed, but I rarely use it in actual practice.
