it's still on the agenda but it might not make it for this cycle since it seems late and will require lot of testing, etc but I don't know the details, that's something to discuss with the unity team rather

This better suits power users (and those migrating from Windows) as it allows people to use Focus Follows Mouse and means a faster interface as users do not need to travel to the top of the screen to access the menu every time. I understand it's consistent having the menu at the top and that should stay as the default but the option to turn it off is quite important to a lot of people and I think missing this from 12.04 would be a mistake. I know the UI has gone into a freeze now but it is in the designs which have also been frozen so is it likely to make an appearance soon? If not then I would be interested to know why it has been dropped.
