Sorry, I m unable to post that, can you reproduce this and read it? 
exactly as said: install many WM, gnome3,etc and enable root GUI login, then 
try logging in with root and trying to use other session than unity, Unity 2D 
doesn't even works, it launches default, well, I can't help anymore.
