Thank you for your bug report, shotwell is not an image viewer though
and supports only photo formats, without eog we wouldn't have something
able to display bmp, gif, etc images by default

  remove eog from default apps

Status in “eog” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Eye of gnome has the same fonctionalities as shotwell, but can't import 
photos neither show raw pictures.
  Why keep it as default on ubuntu 12.04?
  When trying to remove, it removes also ubuntu-desktop. At least this 
dependencie should be removed.
