When I close the notebook, it automatically activates the setting to show the
same content on both screens and the screen resolution on the external screen
changes to the max. of my notebook. I set it back and than the same happens
when I open the notebook again. So my external screen is always influenced when
i open or close the notebook.
Did I express it well enough?
@dank: no it's not.

Title:
  gnome-display-properties closed switched, off notebook display
  shouldn't affect external screen

Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  When I plug an external screen to my notebook an switch off the notebook
screen in the gnome-display-properties, it should be possible to close the
notebook without affecting the external screen. So deactivating the power
management option automatically.
  This is the workaround:
  gconftool-2 --set /apps/gnome-power-manager/buttons/lid_ac --type string
"nothing"
