Hello userdce , and thanks for your report and your suggestion. It was decided in design and user testing that launching an application from Software Center itself is not ideal. Instead, the conventional way to launch an application (the Unity launcher) should be used, and the following specification is currently being implemented in Precise to help users discover how to launch an application that they have installed.
