Next try with ubuntu 11.10 i386. Card was detected, starting with red light. But there is an error in dmesg and the card won't turn green for the network.

When inserted udev creates over serial_cs the devicenode /dev/MerlinUMTS. Network-Manager, better modem-manager asks for the pin and let the card succesfull enter the carriers network. When i create a broadband connection within nm i got adhoc a "gsm connection detached"......... Using gnome-ppp and the ubuntu wiki for novatel u740 to /dev/MerlinUMTS i can go online without any problem, cause i can set proper modem commands there. In the 10.10 network manager there are no options to set any modem commands, i feel this is a bug. The merlin u530 is a umts broadband card and so it should work with nm's broadband functions.
