Title:
contacts online from a mobile device are shown with a LANDLINE phone
icon
Status in Chat app, and Telepathy user interface:
Confirmed
Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu:
Triaged
Bug description:
See screenshot.
For ages, on seeing this symbol, I assumed it meant "able to receive
an audio call." I fail to see any situation in which a person could
use an IM client from a phone like the one depicted in the icon, bar a
jailbroken Amstrad e-m@ailer.
A generic mobile phone icon, preferably a generic iPhone- or
BlackBerry-style smartphone, would be clearer and more accurate, and
reduce the potential for confusion.
