Well, I can't reproduce this on 12.04. Which isn't to say the bug isn't there, but I would consider this s a software-center thing which, regardless, has been fixed as some point.

You will now notice that the search bar is missing, it is my thoughts that this is happening because when you pin the window to the side of the screen it makes it smaller than it is supposed to go. The best fix might be to make it so the search bar can expand and shrink with the window, perhaps.
