Public bug reported:
I have marked this against 'gnome-control-center display' however the
root cause may be elsewhere, so feel free to correct.
Actions (happens every time):
1. Leave PC running but to save power switch off desplay (VGA-connected Samsung
1100MB at 1920x1440).
2. Do some thing else, like sleep.
3. Return to PC; switch monitor on.
4. Move mouse to wake up display.
5. login screen comes up in SVGA/800x600 (?), having 'forgotten' last
resolution.
6. login and desktop comes up, also at SVGA resolution
7. from the on-screen top-right 'power button', select 'displays'
8. gnome-control-center appers with the 'display window' and immeditaely,
automatically goes (back) to 1920x1440.
9. close gnome-control-center and continue to work.
This has only happened with 12.04, I guess I should have reported it
sooner - it is annoying. The only thing I have found similar in earlier
distros (and with 12.04) is if I cold-start the PC before switching the
monitor on. In those cases, I must power up the monitor first, before
BIOS in order for it to boot straight to 1920x1440.
Now, thinking that I might be tripping that cold-boot case, I made sure
that I powered up the monitor before moving the mouse (or touching
anything else) in steps 3,4 to 'wake up' the PC - but that made no
difference.
Graphics are via Intel Sandy Bridge built-in HD 3000.
