The reason why KDE people are not complaining about the printing in firefox is
rather simple.

Either distributors or end-users enter "kprinter" in this printing command
line. This empowers the users of KDE with many options of the KDE printing
service when using firefox.

For the user this integration is rather transparent and enables her to

- make use of the standard printer settings
- get the KDE l&f for the printing dialog
- allows access to all more advanced ppd settings
....

The reason why I am pushing for RUDI and not for a kprinter(*) like interface
is that kprinter is limited to one-way communication. For perfect printing
the printing system must provide feedback about the system and the users
choices to the application (e.g. margins, paper-size,...)

(*) in some way kprinter is some command line interface to desktop services
like those Alex proposed in Portland. While I like these I think that command
line tools don't go far enough if I am concerned about full desktop
integration. Still command line tools are more than useful and shall be
pushed for within the portland project.
