In this case it might be of interest to you that some of us desktop developers have started [1] to implement APIs for some of the Portland tasks. However, as this APIs are intended for you ISV folks it would be greatly appreciated to get you feedback early on. I tend to think of it as some kind of rapid prototyping like process: we implement something that matches the often vaguely formulated Portland tasks, then wait for some feedback from the target audience and repeat.
