Oi,
public transport is very good in this area. The cities are all connected
by regional trains which go very frequently. Most important regional
trains are the "S-Bahn" trains, stations and platformas are marked with
a white "S" on green background.
Inside the cities there are also many busses, trams ("Straßenbahn"), and
subways ("U-Bahn", white "U" on blue ground).
Most important stations for you are (with "S-Bahn" lines):
Frankfurt Central Station - Frankfurt(Main) Hauptbahnhof(Hbf):S1, S8, S9
Frankfurt Airport - Frankfurt(Main) Flughafen: S8, S9
Mainz Central Station - Mainz Hauptbahnhof(Hbf): S8
Wiesbaden Central Station - Wiesbaden Hauptbahnhof(Hbf): S1, S8, S9
You can take the S8 to Mainz Südbahnhof (South station) and have around
12-15 minutes to walk to the IBM facility in Mainz Oberstadt.
Or from Mainz Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) you can take the busses
- 62 to Mainz Hechtsheimer Straße
- 63 to Mainz Hechtsheimer Straße
- 65 to Mainz Martin-Luther-Straße or Mainz Bodelschwinghstraße
and walk 2-7 minutes to get to the IBM facility in Mainz Oberstadt.
For the LinuxTag you go to Wiesbaden Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) and
have 10 minutes to walk to the Rhein-Main-Hallen. See also
www.linuxtag.org for more directions.
All this information I got from
http://www.nahverkehr-ffm.de/
Unfortunately, the site is only in german. Please call your hotel for
directions from and to the hotel, post the directions here on the list
so that not everyone has to ask.
