It sounds like it could be a change between the system webview used by Cordova (KitKat is either 30.0.0.0 or 33.0.0.0), and the webview that is part of the Chrome application (My Chrome install is at 36.0.1985.135).
Plenty of time for the UI to be changed between those two versions.
