I must say that the OpenDS team was not happy to learn the news from upper management and the public announcement on Apache Directory mailing lists only.

As a matter of fact, after the announce of the OpenDS / Apache Directory Server, the whole French team resigned and is transferring to Redmond to work with Howard and Alex, except myself, as I was competing with Howard Chu for the Architect Role and obviously he got it. I will now have the choice to either try to replace Alex or Howard in their previous positions.

Ludovic. :-)

I just found out that Bill Gates is my real father: I've decided to stop working on ApacheDS. I will start working for M$ on the Active Directory

I was going to wait till the ink was dry on the contracts, but I guess I should mention that Microsoft also invited me to be the new architect for the Active Directory team. So in fact Alex and I will be working together at Microsoft, effective as of 23:59:59 tonight.

They actually contacted me about a month ago, after I'd pointed out some of their DB design flaws on the UMich LDAP list. I must admit it's been fun hacking on OpenLDAP, but now I'll just be ordering other devs around and making a ton of money instead.

Hello Howard,

I’m a senior technical recruiting consultant at Microsoft and I support the Connected Systems Division’s (all things SOA) quest in identifying
exceptional senior level technical talent for critical and key roles
within the division. I am currently conducting a search for “the”
architect for the Directory Services/Active Directory team (job
description below). In researching innovative engineering pioneers, I
have come across the many references to your technical innovation and
leadership successes with Locus, Platinum and of course, Symas. If you would be so kind, I’d like to request a few minutes of your time to tell
you more about this opportunity and to get your thoughts.

Thank you in advance for your time and I look forward to your reply.

Best Regards,

LXXXXXXXXXX

I'd rather lick the bottom of your shoes after a long day in Paris
instead of having to work with SUN.

   Hi guys,

after having had some convos today with some big shots at Sun, I'm very pleased to announce that we have found some kind of agreements about
merging OpenDS into Apache Directory Server.

This is a great news, as we will benefit from more than 10 years of
experience from the SUN directory team !

In the next few daysn we will have to vote for 30 more committers, so be
ready to be flooded with VOTEs...

The new product will be named Swordfish, to follow Sun's recent naming
(Glassfish and so on). A very appropriate name !

   Thanks !
