Most of the problems I've seen with people recommitting files with all the line endings change is because they check it out on windows onto a samba mount and commit it on unix (I guess you get what you deserve in that case :)
I would like to see .tar.gz files at least built with LF's, and don't really care about .zip's because of -a, but CRLF's sound reasonable as a lowest common denominator. So if someone would like to put the patch into JIRA, I'm sure it'll get addressed in due course. Cheers, Brett
