I ended up just hacking around this, creating a wrapper around the
Classworlds launcher:
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/geronimo/sandbox/build-support/
harness/trunk/src/main/java/ReLauncher.java
And then hooking it up in bin/mvn:
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/geronimo/sandbox/build-support/
harness/trunk/src/main/bin/mvn
This works very well.

* create a new plexus utils jar based on the proposed change ?
* or make sure this new plexus-utils jar is used when you run maven ?
* both ?
* something else ?
