A Subversion tag != a release. Only a vote makes a release. There are plenty of tags around the ASF svn repo that never turned into releases. For example, compare http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/tomcat/tc6.0.x/tags/ with http://archive.apache.org/dist/tomcat/tomcat-6/ . The way it's set up now, we stage and vote on the actual bits that will be released, including the tag. Of course it's up to the release manager how to handle it, but I'm not in favor of adding a required manual step (renaming a tag) to the release process. -- Wendy
