Hi Chris, in the meantime I just realized that it was a bad idea to right-click the hyper-linked file names on the download page (<http://tika.apache.org/download.html>, which is actually a landing page for the Tika downloads). I might not be the only one to whom the file names (with extensions) suggested to do that. Instead of the actual file I only got the HTML page with the mirror list which has the same name. The suffixes of the mirror list pages (*.zip and *.jar respectively instead of *.html) are misleading. Because of that I discovered my mistake only when wondering about the rather small file length of the downloaded items.
The check sums were verified perfectly for the actual files which I downloaded from the mirror list pages. Something like "mirror list" in parentheses behind the file names on the download page (<http://tika.apache.org/download.html>) could be helpful. Could you show us the exact command you are using? Also can you confirm the contents of your ASC files and your SHA1?
