Replying myself :): editing index.html, adding a couple of js files and it's done. AFAIC it was a bad idea to replace the clock with the search bar, the one in the top right is too small to be of any use (I removed it) and the one on the lock screen is on the lock screen. But I'm sure all these will be part of future enhancements to the system.
