Hi John, I don't really get the idea about your motivation for using a framebuffer console. On smartphones with rather small screens, you run all apps in full screen and have no window manager, borders etc. You can easily switch between those apps and you can run a terminal emulator there as well. And the graphical UI should consume less resources than a full-fledged Xserver, so it's already pretty lightweight.
