As far as I understand it, Firefox OS is B2G/Boot2Gecko + Mozilla’s
branding and services (and those of our partners, where applicable.)
OEMs have to follow certain guidelines to have their phone branded as
Firefox OS, so B2G is kind of a white label of sorts, as well as
being the original engineering codename.
Web developers largely don’t care about this distinction, but it
matters more to platform developers (e.g. those from OEMs.) I’m using
“Firefox OS” in most places on MDN, but there are a few places where
I explain the distinctions mentioned above, and I wanted to make sure
I got it right.
I think this is a great explanation, Chris, and says it even better than
the quote I excerpted in my reply.
I've been thinking about the need for some kind of FAQ for this list and
the m.d.gaia list. Maybe a wiki page is a good place to start. I'll see
if I can't stand something up next week, assuming we don't already have it.
