As you probably know only the OEM can speak with confidence about future update plans for devices.
That having said, here is some information that might be helpful: - The Open C is currently based on the device drivers that also shipped with Android JB. We will continue to support this base system for quite some time (at least 2.0, probably longer). - The chipset in the Open C will likely be supported by the chipset vendor with Android KK drivers as well (judging from activity I see in our bugzilla system). We will support the KK drivers for even longer than JB since its the most recent driver API. - We are pushing the OEMs pretty hard to make sure that every Firefox OS branded device comes with an unlocked boot loader so even after the OEM stops supplying updates people can update themselves (subject to the usual risks). Sometimes OEMs mess this up and devices come locked, but so far they have always published a follow-up boot image that fixes that. If you want a device with maximum update lifetime, check out the Flame. Most of our developers are switching to it, and we have a lot more control over it (an ODM made it just for Mozilla), so we will ensure updates for as long as we can.
