Hi list, I reached out to you in July to discuss backups & use-cases[2]. There's also been a previous thread started by Fabrice in 2013 [1].
So here's an overview what's possible and planned so far. 1) The targeted user group for Firefox OS does not own a PC and is not tech-savvy. I think in the long run there should be a way to do cloud backups, probably tied to Firefox Accounts. AFAIU a team within Cloud Services is planning to fill this gap? A similar solution that requires a PC is provided by Mozilla China, which requires a Firefox add-on and the "PC Sync" app from Marketplace. It supports syncing Contacts, Video, Photos and Music. 2) Web Developers, who don't want to play with adb but are very much able to do advanced things on a PC. The idea is to do a back up of one or more apps through a few shiny buttons. This will likely end-up in WebIDE, but is pending some future considerations, e.g. the backup API as suggested by Fabrice [3]. 3) Phone developers and "advanced" hackers, may still use adb or the backup/restore scripts provided through <https://github.com/Mozilla-TWQA/B2G-flash-tool/> Any feedback is appreciated!
