Concerning the lm rendering problems ... Jacko would like to have a
report on this so that they can take it into account. Similar problems
could occur with the tex-gyre fonts.

when you improve/change lm hinting we should check it out with these folks
If you could ask the folks to prepare a report for me (a minimal TeX
source plus PDF), I'd be grateful. (I'm not sure whether the problem is
with hinting or with the previewer... ;-)
