ConTeXt without luatex wouldn't work anyway ... :) Apart from that it's probably luaotfload that also uses the same TEXMFCACHE field to store font data. (Which makes me wonder if luaotfload also needs to apply the same fix after Hans has changed the format of texmfcnf.lua.)
