I finally gave up on the cross-compilation idea, and compiled the
Mozilla sourcetree natively on an old Windows machine (a "cygwin only"
build works btw, at least on the mozilla 1.7.13 sourcetree, no need for
Visual Studio).
As it seems (and as several people pointed out in this group),
XULRunner turns out to be an interesting starting point in Gecko
embedding. It takes some time to get comfortable with the whole
Mozilla build process (knowing what (not) to do is one thing,
understanding why is a different matter), but spending time on it does
pay back.
