Is there any way in which we could organize a hacking sprint and get it?

I totally understand what are the reasons for the rewrite, and I like the new
codebase. I believe it's great for the future of the app and ability of our OS
to evolve.

But, we just talked here about how we cannot *regress* user experience when
landing refactors. Music app has done tremendous amount of effort to bring the
Music-NGA to partity with Music-OGA and yet they got (imho very unfair)
treatment for short-term (under two weeks) performance regression.

Now, we are talking about removing one of the most fundamental pieces of how
people customize their phones for the whole 2.5 cycle!

And as we can see in this thread there is clearly an interest from our
community to preserve this feature. I would hope we can get enough engineers
interested to help the team working on Homescreen with a patch.

wrt. UX, if we could reproduce the same behavior as verticalhome has, we could
avoid having to design new UX for 2.5, and then for 2.5.Next we can improve on
it.

How does it sound?
zb.
