I've noticed this recently. It didn't take me long to get used to being
more precise with my swipe intent.

I reproduced something similar to the video just now. I think its specific
to moving quickly and for short distances. If I swipe quickly but with a
longer distance they seem to always close (even in a semi diagonal
movement).
