Hm... I did check the JIRA before I posted this message... but somehow must have missed it. Sorry.
For what it's worth: I did create a custom FCK Module for Mag 4.2.3 in the meantime with FCK Editor 2.6.6 and have not discovered any problems yet. It really seems to be a "drop-in" replacement. So congrats to the FCK team for the modular and extensible approach and congrats to the Magnolia team for integrating in in a way that made this upgrade easy. Concerning a patch: There was nothing really to "patch" except the files that I exchanged (except one tiny modification to fckconfig.js -> turning email encoding on). And a big part of the files are binaries (images).
