A lot of workarounds have been implemented for this, amongst other to work
around stk/form/pur issues.
Fix those issues in the appropriate modules, link them here, then remove the
workaround in the openid module.
Additionally, the openid form should (ideally?) be a form field (i.e a
paragraph nested in a form paragraph).
