In a FreeMarker template, doing {{[#if mgnl.editMode]}} can be quite useful to
conditionally display edit bars or other elements. Perhaps as a separate
function, we should also check for the current user's permissions - if she
doesn't have permissions to write on the current element (or on a given element
if we add another function), it doesn't make sense to display an edit bar.
