Remove empty/place holder apps

We should remove or hide empty apps. We originally added placeholder apps for
the conference to make the app launcher look good.
I'd like to change this now for Alpha1, because:
* if you download a new release, it's less painful to try out stuff, because
what's there actually works
* it's also immediately obvious if a new app was added
* it helps us to focus on what's there and less on what's still missing.
People will get used to an appearance with fewer, but more relevant apps,
instead of a full list of apps with mainly placeholders in it.
