There should be a method you can override on TemplateExporter to do final changes just before it's registered.
Either the call to TemplateRegistry is extracted to a method that does only this or we add a dedicated nop-by-default method called since like postProcessTemplateDefinition().
Should also investigate if this is necessary for the dialogs.
