If the image is smaller then the preview - then the true pixels should be displayed - centered in the preview area.
Currently the preview displays an image with the imageing modules "portrait" generator. This is created useing cropresize.BoundedResize which will upscale an image. The imaging module should provide a new BoundedResizeNoUpscale to enable creation of preview which is not upscaled. See attached Imaging module ticket.
