Obviously, auto-generated areas are created/edited in two distinct steps, so we hardly have any way to find out when it is actually new. This looks to me like a custom behavior to implement specifically in the pages app, to treat such areas like new nodes, on the first time they're being edited. We'll have to think about what options we have there. So chances are that we might have to postpone it once again.
