Anonymous Community User created an issue   Suggestion Box / SUGGEST-10 YAML can use Blossom backed controllers instead of models Issue Type: Improvement Assignee: Christopher Zimmermann Created: 17/Dec/15 3:22 PM Environment: Labels: collector-0cf1239d Reporter: Anonymous Community User When using Magnolia’s Model pattern we’ve noticed that it seems to have trouble w/ the following: · Request parameter binding, you have to manually pull out request parameters. · JSR 303 Validation annotations · Multiple actions to same Model class o If I want to do an ajax request to a Model class on top of existing view, then I have to add if/else on say a request parameter. · Integrating w/ spring services o You will have to look up the application context from servletcontext, which is retrieved via Components.getComponent. § The above is understandable given that Magnolia is using google Guice, however it leads to a big gap between people wanting to use Spring and being forced to use Guice (if you want to get a lot of things Magnolia builds). Typically most devs coming in will be pretty familiar w/ Spring and will have multitude of documentation/examples to view. For the Magnolia model class pattern it is very Magnolia specific, and requires a ton of time viewing Magnolia source code. For backend devs we want to standardize on Spring, however w/ advent of MTE/YAML this has made it very easy for content devs to just create YAML and point to a Model class. Now we have two ways of createing templates, which makes hard to standardize. What would be nice is if YAML can use Blossom backed controllers instead of Model classes. Probably more ideal is if Magnolia had one way to do something as the defacto (hopefully spring J ), w/ the multiple ways of doing something it causes confusion a lot of times. Also, the site definition/prototype model seems to give more credence to YAML/STK vs Blossom integration.
